Yfoundations

Yfoundations is a peak body that seeks to end youth homelessness.

They provide support to youth workers and the sector through training, policy and structural advocacy, research and sector development and raising community awareness.

Time for Youth (Victoria)

Time for Youth is an incorporated ’not-for-profit’ agency with the aim of ‘minimising homelessness and creating opportunities with young people and their families’.

Time for Youth is a key provider of services for vulnerable young people aged 10 – 25 and their families including accommodation (crisis and transitional housing), housing support, information, referral to the wider service network and innovative youth and family interventions as well as a range of other initiatives to assist young people to develop their sense of belonging and connections to family and their community.

Direct Tenancy Program – DTP (Tasmania)

The Direct Tenancy Program supports young people aged between 16-25 years to live independently by providing practical help to set up their homes and assistance with budgeting. New tenants are provided with an environmental and a basic support pack that includes energy saving devices, information, vouchers and basic cleaning products.

Young people can also get assistance to buy whitegoods (depending on their circumstances).

The Direct Tenancy Program also provides support to young people who have moved to Hobart from rural areas to undertake further schooling or training opportunities.

Youth Integrated Education and Accommodation Program (ACT)

The Youth Integrated Education and Accommodation Program is an exciting new initiative aimed at supporting young people who have experienced or been at risk of homelessness. By providing high quality and affordable housing within a supportive environment, the program is able to link young people with education, training and employment opportunities.

Young people engaged in the program also have the opportunity to participate in mentoring and life skills activities, helping to build supportive relationships and prepare for independent living.

The program is operated by Barnardos and Anglicare. Contact can be made by phone on 6257 5029.

Working with the private rented sector to tackle youth homelessness: A good practice report

Crisis, UK.  March 2012

This Crisis publication identifies the most effective ways in which agencies in the United Kingdom are supporting young homeless or vulnerably housed people to access and sustain private rented accommodation.

The report aims to describe approaches that are being put into practice successfully by a variety of organisations in England. An accompanying Toolkit is intended to provide guidance and tools for voluntary organisations and others to support young people who are homeless or who have other vulnerabilities to achieve and maintain tenancies in the private rented sector.
