While some homelessness services target specific populations, others offer services to a range of populations. The issues that impact on homelessness are often common across different populations, though they may have different impacts in different groups. Some of the literature on homelessness reflects these broader perspectives.
States of being: Exploring the links between homelessness, mental illness and psychological distress
An evidence based policy paper, Homelessness Australia, December 2011
From the introduction “Homelessness Australia presents this paper with the intention to explore what the literature and its members are telling us about the links between homelessness, mental illness and psychological distress.
The paper also proposes some recommendations that the homelessness and mental health sector believe, if implemented, would lead to improved housing and mental health and well-being outcomes for Australians experiencing homelessness and mental illness and those who may be at risk of becoming homeless as a result of mental illness.”
