Community Solutions has officially launched as an independent, social innovation
not-for-profit dedicated to strengthening communities to end homelessness in the USA.
Community Solutions see their role as a new kind of not-for-profit: a connector and collaborator, working across sectors and nationally to bridge the gap between what they believe works to end homelessness and what is actually done. They are responding to the need to create well-functioning local housing systems that work for vulnerable people.
Community Solutions are focusing on those communities where there are:
1) significant needs;
2) strong partners; and
3) specific high-impact projects that lend themselves to their collaborative model.
To illustrate, Community Solutions are:
- Creating homes for disabled people still homeless after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita through collaborations with UNITY of Greater New Orleans, developers Gulf Coast Housing Partnership and HRI, and city, state and federal agencies.
- Connecting community resources and integrating the efforts of multiple not-for-profits and government agencies to prevent homelessness and revitalize a public housing neighbourhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
- Supporting over 85 communities in adopting innovations that end homelessness through the 100,000 Homes Campaign.
